Scripture Union NZ are delighted to reveal the bathroom renovations at SU Adventure Lodge. We have been blessed by a generous donation from Hunt Foundation to achieve this project.
The bathrooms were functional, but the plumbing and fixtures were steadily failing. Our building and plumbing team stayed at the Lodge to achieve this renovation. They installed new flooring, cleverly designing a raised floor in the shower cubicles to solve the drainage, new sinks, toilets, partitions and wall linings. Also lighting and heating improvements.
A major problem at the Lodge has been the extraction of vapour from the bathrooms and drying rooms. Our builder, Grant Molloy rallied further donors to generously gift a Lossnay ventilation system to mitigate the condensation issues which were slowly causing damage inside the Lodge. SUNZ are blown away by this generosity, and so grateful for a solution.
We are humbled by the renovation team who generously donated their labour, skills and supplied materials at cost. The photos do not fully convey the depth of preparation and work that went into this project.
That’s Grant in the first video clip Lodge Bathroom Renovation.mov and giving a commentary in the second one too Second Bathroom.MOV
The Lodge is used by our SUNZ youth camps in the school holidays. It is booked by church youth groups, home groups, family groups and school groups. The hire of the Lodge helps maintain it for our youth camps.
You can stay at our Lodge too! You can call SUNZ on 04 385 0485 to enquire or book through this link which provides more information about the Lodge and available dates.
Our recent lodge user review " The renovations to the bathrooms and the ventilation is a huge addition to the accomodation. Both bathroom renovations are very nice. The ventialtion system made the lodge feel a lot warmer than last time".
SUNZ own the SU Adventure Lodge building and lease the land from Department of Conservation. Included in the lease are the fees for Tongariro National Park; maintenance of infrastructure and walking tracks etc.
Maintenance of our Lodge has mostly been undertaken by our Waikato committee, a group of volunteers who give their expertise and time to repair and tidy up the Lodge and grounds, particularly prior to our youth camps. There are also generous individuals who drop by to check and clean up (bait stations and heat pump filters etc.). Some of our supporters who stay at our Lodge also take the extra time and effort to deep clean and report on various issues. A few generously donate to SUNZ to help with our Lodge running costs. It takes a lot of work to keep the Lodge in good shape. We are so grateful to this committee and supporters who are part of the stewardship of SU Adventure Lodge.
SUNZ have also appointed an Operations Manager, Hana Leofo, to help look after the Lodge, and our National Office which we joint-own with TSCF. Hana has managed to get this bathroom renovation ‘over the line’ by coordinating and decision making.
Our sincere thanks to
